While symptoms may include extreme, sudden onset of pain, some may have virtually no symptoms. Most include the bottom two discs and begins in the low back, often radiating down the leg by exerting pressure on the sciatic nerve. Pain may follow that nerve all the way down the leg and even into the foot. Pressure on this nerve may eventually cause numbness and a pins-and needles sensation.
Although the low-back is the most common area, slipped discs may also occur in the neck or cervical spine and may include a sudden onset of pain or no pain at all. You may also experience pain radiating into the shoulder and down into the arm and hand. Pressure on this nerve may also cause numbness in the hand and fingers.
