Sacroiliac Joint Pain Treatment in Richmond, VA

Chiropractic care can relieve the lower-back pain associated with problems of the sacroiliac joint. There is a correlation between low back pain and sacroliliac joint dysfunction. This joint is one of two, one on the left and one on the right, in the pelvis that link the tailbone or sacrum, which is part of the spine, and the large pelvic bone or the ilium. This provides the base for spinal movements to take place.

Although the sacroiliac joint can be injured by direct falls on the buttocks, accidents, injuries, trauma or even overlifting, it can also just happen through normal activities without any apparent trauma. Sacroiliac pain occurs when the joints become misaligned and the ligaments or muscles around the joints become strained or sprained, causing inflammation. The inflammation often manifests as pain, with stiffness, on the left or right side of the lower back, a pain that may radiate to the buttocks, the back of thigh or the groin. The pain may also be achy, becoming sharp with movement, and can be made worse with rolling in bed, putting on shoes and socks, and rising from a seated position. In addition, it can be tender to the touch around the bony lumps on one side of the lower back.

When you come to Spinal Correction Center for chiropractic care and therapy for treatment of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, our doctor will take a complete history and examine your lower back and pelvis to determine the structural cause of the pain.  Although the common treatment for pain is oftentimes medication, this does not provide a long-term correction of the problem that is creating the pain to mainifest.  Dr. Mulvaney will look to find the source of the problem and look to find a solution and provide treatment options. The best treatment combines hands-on soft-tissue and sacroiliac joint techniques provided at our clinic. Much research supports the effectiveness of hands-on techniques to relieve pain and restore function as well as soft-tissue techniques used to alleviate muscle spasms and inflammation, and to promote the healing of tissue and the desensitization of painful nerve endings.  Our joint techniques involving mobilization and manipulation to realign the sacroiliac joint are gentle as well our other therapies to encourage healing.

You do not need to suffer with pain, which is not normal, but our body's way of communicating a problem.  Call Spinal Correction Center today to schedule an intial history, exam and consultation to find out which advanced, customized treatment would be best for you.  (804) 740-9300
